These works are about who I am – where I come from and what has formed me. Where I have been and where I want to go – both physically and spiritually. They are an exploration of what guides me. About lessons I have learned. About aspirations. They are about the energy I share with all living things. And how I fit into this larger picture.
I am working on terraskin paper (an eco-friendly paper made from limestone instead of trees). It has a wonderfully smooth surface that takes well to both stitching and paint. On this surface I work with both acrylic paint and vintage textiles (many of which I have picked up on my travels). Some of them I hand–dye. I then embroider, stitch, appliqué, bead, add buttons and found objects. The finished work is then mounted on a wood panel.
